From fat and frowning to fit and fabulous!

I started this blog to share with the world my fitness journey. I have come a long way and sometimes I forget that. I have this one lonely picture (I burned all my other fat pictures) to remind me of how far I have come. On the left hand side I was 19 years old. I was living in Vancouver at the time and I was extremely unhealthy. My diet consisted of doughnuts, fast food, coke and chips. Not to mention the fact that I smoked a pack a day of export A blue. For those of you that have ever smoked you know that export A blue is a very strong type of cigarette. My health was not a priority back then. I was in makeup artistry school and had the mind set of a teenager that nothing bad could ever happen to me.
When I returned home one year later my Mom was shocked at how much weight I had gained. At 5 foot 2 and 162 pounds I was well overweight for my age. She was so great about it though. She asked me if I would like to see a nutritionalist as she had one for a client in Calgary. I agreed because although I was oblivious to exactly how bad it had gotten I knew that I needed help and I would not be able to do it on my own. I was pretty shocked when we showed up and parked in front of Jenny Craig!!! but I thought I will give it a chance:) I am so happy I did. I still remember my consultants name, Amber. She was a sweet little thing with strawberry blonde hair and a pretty smile. She asked me a series of questions and asked me to write down everything that I ate in a day. I wrote down on the list my carb filled diet. She read over it and asked me... "Denise can you tell me the last time you ate a vegetable?" I literally looked around the room and tried to remember. I actually couldn't!!!!! Wow the future of my health was in worse condition than I could have imagined!! From that moment on I was completely committed to the diet at Jenny Craig. I began to loose weight and before I knew it I was at my halfway goal of 135 pounds. At this point I hadn't started working out but when I got to that halfway point it began to be harder to loose the weight. I joined spa lady and before I knew it the workout bug had bitten me hard. I began to drop more and more weight and I felt absolutely fabulous at my goal weight of 120 (picture on the left).
Now I'm not saying that everyone should go on Jenny Craig, I'm just saying thats what worked for me at the time. I am now 30 years old and I am training for my first fitness competetion. I plan on doing the IDFA in June and the WBFF in July. I have seen people be just as successful on weight watchers as well. 90% of dieting is actually mental and being consistent is the most important thing a person can do. I am currently training with a trainer 3 days a week, 3 on my own and I have adopted a diet of clean eating and not just a diet but a lifestyle change. I will share with you my progress on this blog as well as recipes, inspiration and workouts. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Fitness and nutrition are my passion! I am now a registered nurse and care very much about the health of others. I hope that this blog will inspire you to become the best version of yourself and become forever fit Pippi style!
